Wellness hub

At Falconhurst School, we believe every child deserves to belong, matter and feel safe.

The Wellness Hub is our centre for emotional wellbeing, inclusion and family support. Working alongside children, families, staff and local partners, we provide early support that helps children build confidence, resilience and positive relationships so they are ready to learn and thrive.

Everything we do is rooted in our school values of Courage, Determination, Ambition and Success, ensuring every child is valued as an individual and supported to achieve their full potential.

Our Approach

Children thrive when they feel connected, understood and supported.

We believe every child should experience:

  • Belonging – feeling accepted, included and connected within our school community.
  • Mattering – knowing their voice, experiences and feelings are valued.
  • Strong Relationships – having trusted adults who notice, listen, support and encourage.
  • Safety – feeling emotionally and physically safe so they can learn, grow and succeed.

Our work is preventative, relationship-led, inclusive and always safeguarding-first.

Our Wellness Hub Curriculum

Wellbeing is not something we only respond to—it is something we intentionally teach, develop and nurture.

Our Wellness Hub Curriculum complements our PSHE curriculum and provides a carefully planned, progressive approach to emotional wellbeing, inclusion and personal development from EYFS through to Year 6. Working alongside class teachers and phase leaders, it helps children develop the knowledge, skills and protective behaviours they need to flourish both in school and beyond.

The curriculum reflects our belief that emotional wellbeing is everyone's responsibility and supports children to develop the confidence, resilience and self-awareness needed to navigate life's opportunities and challenges.

Our Learning in Action

Below are examples of work created by our Year 5 pupils as part of their learning about emotional regulation. Through this learning, they developed strategies to recognise these feelings, understand that they are a normal part of being human, and identify trusted adults and coping strategies that can help.

(Examples of pupils' work are shown below.)

Practical classroom strategies that strengthen inclusive teaching and emotional wellbeing.

Working Together

We know children achieve the best outcomes when schools and families work in partnership.

Alongside our own staff, we work closely with a range of specialist services, including:

  • Children's Social Care
  • Milton Keynes Virtual School
  • Mental Health Support Team (MHST)
  • Family Centres (Hedgerows)
  • Ride High
  • Harry's Rainbow

These partnerships enable us to provide timely advice, coordinated support and specialist expertise for children and families.

Safeguarding

Children's safety and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do.

Sometimes concerns about a child's emotional wellbeing may indicate that they need additional safeguarding support. When this happens, we follow the school's safeguarding procedures and involve our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL). Wherever appropriate, we work openly with families unless doing so would place a child at increased risk.

For emergency safeguarding advice, contact Milton Keynes Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) on 01908 253169.

If a child requires urgent mental health support that is not an immediate emergency, staff can access NHS 111 (Mental Health Option) or seek advice through the local Mental Health Support Team (MHST).
